HomeThe Iowa Skippers Jump Rope Team is under the direction of two Cedar Rapids Community School Physical Education Teachers Kathy Szabo and Sue Bullis. The team does over thirty school assemblies each year. The Skippers also perform at basketball halftime shows, celebrations, and parades representing the American Heart Association, the Iowa Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and the Cedar Rapids Community School.
The Iowa Skippers are made up of forty plus students in fourth grade through seniors in high school. They represent 12 schools in the Cedar Rapids Metro area. The team also has three alumni college members who serve as assistant coaches/advisors who sometimes jump with the team at special performances.
Students who are interested in becoming skippers must attend the group's summer camp which is held each year usually the second week of June. During camp there is a tryout session at which jumpers may try out for the jump rope team. Performance of the groups opening routine and being able to perform approximately thirty jump rope tricks including double Dutch and Chinese wheel are prequesient. Camp information came be found at the camp part of this web site in April.
If you are interested in having the skippers perform at your school or event, please contact your local American Heart Association representative.
